Some Big Events This Winter

Love Mercy 09

Love Mercy 09 is December 28 thru December 31 in Baltimore Maryland. We will be either partnering with Houghton Church or driving our shuttle bus up with Fellowship Wesleyan church. For those not familiar with this event, it is our denomination’s youth conference that takes place every two years. The previous conference was in Orlando Florida. These events typically cost quite a bit of money and the Baltimore trip is no different, with the price tag being near $300. We know that a teen usually participates on average in one of these district conferences in their youth group years. We believe it is beneficial to participate in at least once which is why we promote the event. This year’s theme, Love Mercy, is based on Micah 6:8 which says, He has showed you, 0 man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Want to help? All of us can join in prayer as these teens assemble in Baltimore. Pray that God may guide them to this conference and that their hearts may be drawn to his word. Also, there is a great financial need. Help these teen’s parents by giving what you can to help pay for this conference. For more information on Love Mercy 09, visit their website at www.myWycon.com

Winter Retreat

Over the past few years, the Big Tree Wesleyan youth group has scheduled a spiritual retreat during the winter months at Letchworth State Park. These retreats have always been beneficial and life altering for the teens. And we found a way to add a little something more to this spiritual retreat. Last year was the first year we joined forces with several other churches to embark on a joint winter retreat. Fellowship Wesleyan, North Collins, Houghton, and Orchard Park Wesleyan church partnered with us last year and have made that commitment again this year. We enjoyed using Camp Hickory Hill last year so much that we decided to use it again this year.

As I am sure you would agree, churches working together is a win-win scenario. It is great to pool resources to accomplish something perhaps, a church alone could not. From financial to teaching resources; churches coming together for a specific purpose are of great benefit to the youth groups involved. All churches that were involved last year agree with this- which is why we have decided to extend this camp to the rest of the district churches.

Please join me in praying for this winter retreat. We have decided to keep this retreat at the same cost of last year ($60 early bird, $70 after that) in hopes of attracting even more teens than we can during summer youth camp- due to its history of expense. As I am writing this in the last week of October, all other details for this retreat will be mailed out to the youth shortly (The retreat will be some time at the end of January- beginning of February). Any questions or concerns can be directed to me at your convenience.

Parents and church members; thank you for always helping, always praying, and always volunteering to help the youth group and its leaders! You are a very important part of this ministry and we are grateful!
